Upgrades in Mass Effect can be used to improve and customize our Weapons, Armor, Grenades and Ammunition. Upgrades can be attached to our equipment to improve and change their effects. Each gear piece has a very specific upgrade slots. These upgrades can be accessed from the Equipment Menu.
Armor Upgrades
Armor Upgrades are special tools that are slotted to the equipped Armor of the player and his Squad. Slotting an Armor Upgrade provides both offensive and defensive effects that make the Armor even more effective. High Tier Armor can have two slots. Armor Upgrades can be purchased from Merchants or looted from containers.
Weapon Upgrades
Weapon Upgrades can be used to enhance the effectiveness of your Weapon granting more damage, and increasing the performance of the weapon depending on the mod added. These type of upgrade can be applied to Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles and Pistols to augment them. All Weapons, have one or two open slots for Weapon Upgrades and always one for Ammo except Weapons from Geth Armory that do not accept any kind of upgrades. Weapon Upgrades can be purchased from Merchants, looted from containers and also can be dropped by killed enemies or bosses.
Medi-Gel Upgrades
Medi-Gel Upgrades can be used to increase the amount of Medi-Gel our character can carry, from the original five packs to a total of ten Medi-Gel Packs. Medi-Gel Upgrades can be purchased from Merchants
Ammunition Upgrades
Ammunition Upgrades are specifically designed to enhance the effectiveness of your weapon's ammunition granting different effects like poison, cold and burn. Ammunition Upgrades, may also generate negative effects on your Weapon such as slow rate of fire or heat generation.
A weapon can only have one type of ammo at a time. Ammunition Upgrades can be purchased from Merchants, looted from containers and also can be dropped by killed enemies or bosses.
Grenade Upgrades
Grenade Upgrades can be used to improve your Grenades granting different effects like freezing or burning targets within the blast radius. All Grenade Upgrades come in all the 10 levels, except Anti-Thorian Gas that can't be leveled up. A Grenade can only have one type of Grenade Upgrade at a time. Grenade Upgrades can be purchased from Merchants, looted from containers and also can be dropped by killed enemies or bosses.
